Sandwell on Film

Exciting discoveries are being made as we work with Sandwell Archives to make as much archive film of the area available to the communities of the borough.  The project will bring together archive images of all the towns that make up Sandwell: Oldbury; Rowley Regis; Smethwick; Tipton; Wednesbury; and West Bromwich.  The material will be drawn from both MACE’s collections and those of Sandwell Archives.

DVD copies of the films, which will be made available at Sandwell Archives, will include fascinating films of local industry, particularly at the works of Accles & Pollock Ltd, tube manufacturers based in Oldbury, as well as footage of the West Bromwich Albion football team and hugely significant events such as the visit by Malcolm X to Smethwick in 1965.
