Deaffast 2009

Last week I made a presentation at the annual Deaf film festival, Deaffest in a session that aimed to unlock the hidden histories of the deaf community through archive film.

I showed some rare films as well as letting people know what we do and how archives and community groups can work together in getting more films seen.

I screened films from our own collection that showed Deaf children in school and enjoying outings and also showcased some holdings from other archives including material from the The National Screen & Sound Archive of Wales and the British Deaf Association.

There was an enthusiastic audience who asked plenty of questions and gave the event a good festival atmosphere
