Today’s clip features one of my all-time heroes, Brian Clough. Being Nottingham born myself but growing up in Derbyshire, I’ve been a Nottingham Forest fan all my life, and Brian Clough lived in a Derbyshire village not far from where I grew up.  My favourite year in Forest’s history was 1991,  and my heroes at the time were Stuart Pearce, Nigel Clough, Neil Webb and Des Walker. I’m not old enough to remember the European Cup era! This clip is from Mr Clough’s Derby County days.
The film we’ve featured today was recorded in ATV Today’s logbook as follows:
Colin Todd has been transferred to Derby County football club for a record cash fee of £170,000. Jeff Farmer interviews Todd with manager Brian Clough and assistant Peter Taylor.

Clip Description

Brian Clough says that he sees ability, class and progress and adds that he first spotted Todd when he was a player with Sunderland and Todd was in the youth side. Jeff Farmer suggests that Todd may be a possible captain for England in the 1974 World Cup but Clough says that “he’s got to get in our side first” and adds that he’s “not good enough to displace Dave Mackay”.

What are your memories of Brian Clough?
