HRH The Queen officially opens an new extension to Leicester Royal Infirmary

On 14th March 1980,  Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited Leicester for the first time in 22 years and ATV cameras followed the Queen during her visit which included a greeting by the city’s Lord Mayor, blessing by the Bishop of Leicester, a tour of the new, twelve and a half million pound, extension to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and a tour of the city centre, in the rain, talking to some of the thousands of people who waited to greet the royal couple.
