The Nottingham Broadway cinema will be showcasing Lace from MACE on Saturday 29th September. The programme from the Media Archive for Central England looks back at the history of lace in Nottingham and features archive films from the 1930’s right through to the 1980’s.
Scenes include factory work in the lace market; a 1930’s wedding in lace at St Mary’s; views of the area prior to its regeneration, as well as taking a tour of the Holmes and Baxter factory during the boom years of the 1950’s. The film will also contemplate the beauty of the lace designer’s craft and explore how it inspired Sneinton-born artist Paul Waplington.
