MACE celebrates two FOCAL International Award 2013 Nominations

From Headlines to ‘Tight-Lines’ – The Story of ATV Today and Nottingham on Film are both shortlisted in ‘Best Use of Footage in a Home Entertainment Release’.

MACE is delighted to announce that two of our DVD titles have been shortlisted in this year’s FOCAL International Awards.

The FOCAL Awards have fast become the world’s leading and most complete set of awards for the archive footage business giving a unique opportunity to support and honour the very best in the world of footage .

Last year’s nominees in this same category were IWM’s Rosie Newman’s Britain at War in Colour (which won the award), The Persuaders Complete Series I (BBC/Network), and the highly acclaimed Senna (Universal Pictures/Working Title). Here at MACE we unsurprisingly feel extremely honoured to be joining such distinguished company in gaining two of the three nominations in this years’ shortlist.

From Headlines to ‘Tight-Lines’ – The Story of ATV Today was commissioned and produced for us by, the team behind another of our DVD documentaries, From ATVLand in Colour. MACE’s Development Manager, Emma Morley is Executive Producer and the Producers are Peter Raven, Stephen Thwaites and Lee Bannister. Working with Peter, Steve and Lee has been a great pleasure for MACE. Their enthusiasm in what they do (which is all in their spare time) shows in the documentary they have produced which is of great quality with a well structured narrative, mixing MACE’s ITV regional collection of footage with new interviews.

Nottingham on Film was produced for us by Andy McKay at the University’s School of Media and is one of nine DVDs in a series produced by Andy and his team which celebrate the East and West Midlands through the moving images we preserve.

We hold over 4000 titles of Nottingham and working together the School of Media and MACE chose a variety of films from our collections that were arranged into themes to  illustrate the rich heritage of the city, from the legendary Goose Fair to bicycle manufacturing at the world-renowned Raleigh.

Nottingham on Film - Goose Fair

This collaboration between MACE and the University of Lincoln was made possible by EM Media’s Digital Film Archive Fund. Since Nottingham on Film was produced, MACE has moved to new premises at the University of Lincoln and we’re very pleased that one of our nine collaborative DVDs has been nominated.

Our Director, James Patterson is one of the three Executive Producers of the DVD series which is called Midlands on Film.  James writes: I’m really excited and delighted that two of the MACE productions have been shortlisted for this prestigious FOCAL Award. It is a very appropriate reward for our producer partners at ATVLAND and the University of Lincoln for the crafting of such great work from the archive collections in our care. Our fingers are crossed for success for them.

The third nominee in the category is the BFI’s DVD Roll Out the Barrel: The British Pub on Film. The winner of the award will be announced at a gala ceremony in London on 2nd May.  For a full list of the Awards’ categories and shortlisted nominees CLICK HERE.
