Discovery Fund

A BFI initiative to prepare for their Unlocking Film Heritage project

Funding has been awarded by the British Film Institute to support the exploration of regional film archive collections to uncover material of potential interest for a major on-line film collection being developed by BFI.
At MACE, alongside the identification of material we already know about, we will be exploring a number of unexamined collections with a view to looking at some 900 reels between now and the end of March 2014 when the project concludes.

Resolving MACE’s Vinegar Syndrome Issues

A Heritage Lottery funded project

This is an 18 month long project to research and ensure the survival of a collection of film material originally deposited in the Wolverhampton Borough Archives by Warners, a Wolverhampton based film company specialising in corporate promotional films.

The films are suffering from a decay known as vinegar syndrome and require digitising and reconstructing from the master elements which survive. This work will be undertaken at MACE. Volunteers from Wolverhampton Archives will be recruited to research the company and undertake descriptive cataloguing of the films. An exhibition will publicise the outcome of the project.
