MACE’s Birthday: Emma Morley Chooses Her Current Favourite Title

My favourite title from our collections at the moment is This is Derby made in 1966 by Norman Fitchett, teacher at Pear Tree Junior School.

We have a clip on our website here but the full silent/colour film is also be seen via Vimeo below:

I love this film, mainly because I grew up not far from Derby and it is great to see places I recognise  that have changed, sometimes subtly & sometimes significantly since the film was made. I also love that filmmaker Norman Fitchett took shots of so many buildings and signage so us viewers can really explore how Derby was in 1966.  It’s wonderful record of how Derby looked in the mid 1960s, which is probably why the film has proved so popular on our Vimeo Channel with nearly 11,000 views.
