MACE’s Birthday: Phil Leach Chooses His Current Favourite Clip


It’s MACE’s 14th birthday today and to celebrate some of us have chosen our current favourite clip from our catalogue.

To start us off, Phil Leach, MACE’s Curator of Research & Programming has chosen ATV Today: 14.07.1972: Building Workers Demonstration in Birmingham.

Phil says of the clip, ‘[This is] the brief moment of fame for Birmingham’s King Kong statue, the attempt to make an iconic landmark for the city that was removed and sold off within a few months of its arrival in Manzoni Gardens. I like the section where Peter Plant tries to talk to the building workers who have climbed onto Kong’s shoulders’.
